Abstract of the Disclosure The invention relates to a process for the preparation of a 3-iso- cyanato-1,2,5-oxadiazole of the formula Image in which R is an aromatic radical, comprising reacting phosgene with a compound of the formula Image in which R1 is hydrogen, Image or -CONHR2, and R2 is an aliphatic or aromatic radical, at a temperature between about 150°C and 220°C in the presence of an organic diluent. The products of the new process are useful as intermediates in chemical synthesis of various compounds e.g. plant protection agents, medica- ments and dyestuffs.
