ABSTRACT PROCESS FOR CLEAVING ALIPHATIC ETHER COMPOUNDS Aliphatic ether compounds are cleaved by reacting them with acid halides in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst. The aliphatic ethers have at least one halogen atom in a beta-position to the oxygen atom. The corresponding esters and halides having the unreacted beta-halogen atom(s) are produced. C-35,610
