ABSTRACT During transmission of orthogonally polarized waves, cross-polariza- tion interference resulting from the non-spherical nature of rain drops can arise. To eliminate this interference a special circuit has been designed. This elimination circuit includes a crosstalk component adder which has a weighting circuit for multiplying an interference component of the received orthogonal cross-polarized signals by a compensation coefficient and a compen- sating adder for adding the output of the weighting circuit to a desired one of the received orthogonally-polarized signals. The elimination circuit also includes an error detector for detecting the difference between a transmitted signal and the desired one of the received signals on the basis of the output of the cross-polarization crosstalk component adder. Further component of the elimination circuit are an oscillator for generating cyclic infinitesimal signals; a correlator for detecting any correlation between the output of the oscillator and that of the error detector; and an integrator for integrating the output of the correlator. Finally, the elimination circuit includes a control unit for adding the output of the integrator to that of the oscillator and sup- plying the sum as the compensation coefficient for the weighting circuit of the orthogonal cross-polarization component adder.
