Abstract of the Disclosure The invention relates to thiocarbamoylalkoxyphenylureas of the general formula I Image (I) wherein X is hydrogen, halogen, C1-C2haloalkoxy or C1-C2haloalkyl, Y is a thiocarbamoylalkyl group of the formula Image n is 0, 1 or 2, R1 is hydrogen, C1-C4alkyl, C2-C4alkenyl, C2-C4alkynyl or C1-C4alkoxy, R2 is hydrogen, C1-C4alkyl or C2-C4alkenyl, R3, R4 and R6, each independently of the other, are hydrogen or C1-C4alkyl, R5 is hydrogen, C1-C4alkyl, C1-C4alkoxy or C2-C5alkoxyalkl, R7 is hydrogen, C1-C4alkyl, C2-C4alkenyl, C2-C4alkynyl, C1-C4alkoxy or C1-C2- alkylphenyl, and R8 is hydrogen or C1-C4alkyl, whilst R7 and R8, together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, can form a 5- or 6-membered heterocycli ring system which can be interrupted by a further oxygen atom. These compounds have excellent selective herbicidal and plant growth inhibiting properties.
