41362 CAN LA Abstract of the Disclosure An auditory prosthesis (68) using and a signal processor (10) for an electrical input signal (12) designed to represent sound to a person. A plurality of filters (14, 16, 18) each passing a different center frequency is operatively coupled to receive the electrical input signal (12). Each of the plurality filters (14, 16, 18) is less than critically damped providing an electrical output signal (20, 22, 24) which has an impulse response which is oscillatory. Thus, the plurality of filters (14, 16, 18) generate a plurality of electrical signals (20, 22, 24) which selectively replicate the temporal nerve discharge pattern of individually located auditory nerve fibers within the cochlea of the person.
