- 9 - ABSTRACT A pin-barrel extruder used for processing rubber or thermoplastics materials of for the removing of water from liquid/solid mixtures has pin adjusting means. The adjustment means comprises a plurality of hydraulic piston and cylinder arrangements, the cylinders being mounted on the external surface of the barrel and each pin forms a part of the piston rod of each arrangement. Each pin may be integrally formed with, or detachably affixable to the piston rod with which it is associated. By so doing, the pins are insertable into and retractable from the interior of the barrel in a simple manner. If desired, check valves may be provided so as to make it possible to displace the piston rods individually,in groups or all simultaneously, thereby permit- ting the pins to be moved into or out of the extrusion barrel interior extremely quickly.
