A B S T R A C T The invention relates to a surface covering product suitable for use in the furniture and construction industry, and to a process and apparatus for its production. The essence of the process is that a band is formed from ven- eer and is softened by wetting or with ammonia, and than treated with a fire- retardant agent. Then thermoplastic synthetic adhesive is preferably applied between the veneer band and a carrier material by rolling, pouring, or spread- ing. Furthermore the so-prepared veneer is guided onto the carrier surface of a strip or lath shaped carrier body extruded from synthetic material, and sub- jected to the effect of pressure rollers and/or an oscillating pulsator in a closed space provided with a heat and pressure transmitting stamp with a nega- tive surface, while the temperature of the air, flow velocity and relative water content are regulated in the closed space. In this way removal of the heat of the adhesive is accelerated to such extent, that the heat and solvent do not reduce the strength of the carrier surface of the extruded synthetic carrier body to be covered and thus adhesion of the veneer to the surface of the carrier body to be covered is ensured during continuous progress without deformation of the synthetic carrier material.
