ABSTRACT A closure for a plastic canister having a capacity within the 20-30 liter-range, has a plastic pouring nozzle integral with the canister a collar which is coaxial to the pouring nozzle. At the sides, the collar bears two abutments for the claws of a claw-type closure, having a cap with sealing ring. The closure has a first hinge half which projects from the rearward periphery of the collar, and a second hinge half which cooperates with the first and is provided on the rearward edge of the cap. The second hinge half has a shape, which prevents swinging shut when the cap is open. Two journals are provided in the lateral edge region of the cap. A claw is provided which, in plan view, is approximately U-shaped and has a transverse gripping web and two longitudinal webs emanating from the end regions of the latter, each longitudinal web ending at its free end in a fork having two prongs, the prong which is uppermost in the closed condition forming, together with the journal, a swivel hinge and the lower prong cooperating by its inner surface with the lower surface of the abutment in a manner such that, when the gripping web is pressed downward, the sealing ring is pressed onto an end face of the pouring nozzle. When the closure is closed, the collar fits against the cap with minimal spacings and the claw fits against the collar and the cap with minimal spacings, and although the spacings permit the relative movements which occur during opening and closing, they are smaller than the deformations occurring in event of impact loads.
