SEPARATION OF 3,3',4,4',-AND 2,3,3'4'- TETRAMETHYLDIPHENYL ETHER ABSTRACT A method for separating 3,3',4,4'-tetramethyldiphenyl ether from a starting solid mixture thereof with 2,3,3'4'-tetramethyldiphenyl ether, comprising: (a) melting the starting solid mixture to form a liquid solution; (b) mixing the resulting liquid solution with methanol such that the resulting ether phase and methanol phase remain as two distinct liquid phases; and (c) cooling the aforesaid two liquid phases to a temperature in the range of from about 10°C to about 25°C to thereby crystallize 3,3',4,4'-tetramethyldiphenyl ether from the ether phase.
