A B S T R A C T A method for the synthesis of iodobenzene by oxydative iodination in a gaseous phase of benzene with iodine and oxygen, air or another gas containing oxygen, in the presence of a zeolitic catalyst, selected from the group comprising the zeolites of ZSM 5 and ZSM 11 type. This method allows for a more convenient synthesis of iodobenzene in that it avoids the use of expensive oxidative agents and reactants which are not readily available.
