Abstract Boron containing compositions, comprising an organo- borate compound of the general formula Image (I) wherein R1 is a lower alkylene-based radical, R2 is a hydrocarbon-based radical or a radical of the formula Image , R3 is a hydrocarbon-based radical, R4 is a lower alkylene-based radical, x and y are each an integer which is at least 1, and the sum of x+y is at most about 75. The compositions are multi-functional lubricant addit- ives exhibiting anti-wear, extreme pressure, friction modi- fying and axle efficiency performance capabilities.
