Abstract of the Disclosure Novel 3-isoxazolidinone compounds and novel hydroxamic acid intermediates from which they are prepared have the formula: Image wherein R3 and R7 may be specific individual substi- tuents or they may be joined together to form a single carbon-oxygen bond. These compounds exhibit herbicidal activity to grassy and broad-leaf plant species while leaving legumes, especially soybeans, unaffected. The preparation and herbicidal activity of the compounds is exemplified.
