An olefin polymer having stereoregularity is produced by polymerizing an olefin monomer in the presence of a catalyst which comprises (A) a solid catalyst component, (B) an organic aluminum compound, and (C) an electron donative compound. The solid catalyst component (A) is obtained by reacting, in a first step, (i) a dialkoxymagnesium compound of the formula Mg(OR1)2 wherein R1 is an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms with (ii) an aromatic dicarboxylic acid ester and (iii) a silicon compound of the formula Si(OR2)nX4-n wherein R2 is an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group or an aryl group, X is a halogen atom, and n is a real number of 0 to 3.0, to form a solid reaction product; and then reacting, in a second step, the solid reaction product with a titanium tetrahalide compound. -
