ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE A novel chemical method of labeling porphyrin compounds, specifically hemato- porphyrin derivative(HPD), with the radionuclide Indium-111 or Indium-113m producing a radioactive tracer material suitable for biomedical applications. HPD labeled with Indium-lll or Indium-113m is biologically active in vivo and is preferentially taken up by tumors. This provides a simple and specific means of localizing and detecting neoplasms in man or in animal by scintigraphic imaging techniques.
