A B S T R A C T In a system for selecting particular biological cells from other cells and observing at least one selected property of the selected biological cells, an arrangement comprising: carrier means having a preselected thickness between a top surface on which biological cells are disposable and an opposite bottom surface with a plurality of apertures extending between said surfaces in a preselected array, said apertures having a preselected configuration with preselected dimensions at the top and bottom surfaces, definable as top and bottom dimensions, respectively, whereby when biological cells are disposed on said top surface, only selected cells of preselected dimensions are held substantially with said apertures with substantially one cell per hole.
