ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improvement is provided in a tire having a tread and two sidewall portions, each sidewall portion terminating in a bead portion, the tire consisting of at least two toroidal carcass plies composed of cords, the tire being completely free of circumferentially-placed, carcass-like material. In the improved tire the first toroidal carcass ply has a first end beginning under the tread, and then the first toroidal carcass extends along, and within, a first outer sidewall as a first layer, then extends around the bead portion, then extends along, and within, the first inner sidewall as a second layer, then extends across, and under the first layer and under the tread as a second layer, then extends along and within the other inner sidewall as a first layer, then extends around the other bead, then extends along and within the other outer sidewall as a second layer, and finally terminates at its other end under the tread portion under the first layer, but over the second layer in overlapped relationship. The second toroidal carcass ply has a first end beginning within, and at, a lower portion of a first side wall, then extends along and within the first sidewall to the bead portion, then extends around the first bead portion, then extends along and within the first sidewall, then extends under the tread, then extends along and within the other sidewall, then extends around the second bead portion and finally terminates Abstract continued with its other end within the lower portion of the second sidewall. It is essential that the second toroidal carcass ply always be sandwiched between the two layers of the first toroidal carcass ply. By such structure, tires are provided which show nearly identical performances to those of the conventional structure, but which are greatly improved in respect of their ease of production.
