PROCESS FOR CONTROLLING A PARAMETER BASED UPON FILTERED DATA ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A novel process for filtering data which has been gathered over time, such as data concerning the thickness of a sheet of material being produced. Specifically, the pro- cess involves controlling a parameter based upon a plurality of sampled data X(i), comprising: (a) sampling the data X(i); (b) repeatedly determining filtered data Y(i) based upon: (i) the sampled data X(i); (ii) a calculated filter factor, (i), for long-term variations in X(i); and (iii) a second calculated filter factor, ? (i) for short-term variations in X(i); (c) controlling the parameter based upon Y(i).
