- 1 - ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Apparatus for recording signals on a recording medium or reproducing signals already recorded on the medium has acceleration detectors for detecting accelerations of the apparatus due to external vibrations or impacts. Signals from the acceleration detectors are applied to a control section for stabilization of the control system. Upon experiencing excessively large external vibrations or impacts the apparatus can be temporarily shut down with consequent improvements in the reliability and stability of the apparatus.
