ABSTRACT Described is a method of use and a long lasting passive lavatory cleansing block comprising 5-15% of a soap base, a dye, and 30-70% of a C16-22 fatty acid ester of nonoxynol 80-200. About half of the C16-22 fatty acid ester of nonoxynol 80-200 may be substituted by a nonionic surfactant is selected from the group consisting of an alkoxylated fatty alcohol and a polyethylene gylcol ester. The block is placed in the water stream so that upon flushing components of the block are released into the stream. The degree of release of the components from the block being such that upon exhaustion of the dye, the entire block will have dissolved with a residue of less than about 1%. Also present in the block may be at least one of (i) water softening agent (ii) thickener (iii) fragrance (iv) corrosion inhibitor (v) liquid carrier (vi) germicide and (vii) filler.
