Abstract A process for the preparation of phenylene-bis- phosphineoxide compounds by reacting in a polar aprotic solvent a difluorobenzene compound with a compound of the general formula Image I wherein R1 and R2 represent the same or different alkyl-, aryl-, alkaryl- or aralkyl group or form together an alkylene group and Me is an alkali metal. The 1,2-phenylene-bis-phosphineoxide compounds may be used as bidentate phosphorus-containing ligands in transition metal catalyzed reactions.
