Speed and Angle Timing Measurement Abstract of the Disclosure Apparatus for determining the speed of an engine such as those having first and second shafts rotatably driven by the engine. For example, a sensor generates signals in response to movement of sensible members through circular paths at speeds proportional to the speeds of the first and second shafts, respectively. Clock pulses from a fixed frequency clock are counted to obtain a count between successive signals. The count is inverted to obtain information as to the instantaneous engine speed. Successive instantaneous information is averaged to cancel the effects of engine torsionals. The present invention is particularly useful in engine control systems requiring rapid updating of information as to the speed and timing advance angle of the engine.
