The process and the apparatus are for the transformation of combustible pollutants or waste materials into clean energy and useful products. The process comprises the steps of submitting the material to be treated to the action of a thermic lance in an airless atmosphere so as to totally decompose it and extract combustible gases, non-combustible gases and inerts. Then the thermally decomposed products are cooled and the inert products with water are separated. Steam is thus generated, which is introduced with the cooled gases onto a heated carbonaceous mass in order to filter the gases and, in part, transform them to obtain hydrogen, carbon monoxide and other totally useful gaseous products. Finally, the gaseous products are cooled.
