ABSTRACT A labelling station for objects such as bottles has a rotatably or pivotably mounted removal element with a convexly curved removal surface which is coated with glue and rolls over the front side of a stack of labels located in a magazine. A label is removed from the stack by the adhesive action of the glue, the stack being held by retaining elements engaging the front edges thereof, for which elements corresponding recesses are provided in the pick-up surface, ensuring collision-free rolling of the pick-up surface on the front side of the stack. Additional retaining elements are adapted to move from a first inoperative position into a second position in front of the front side of the stack of labels, where they apply pressure thereto. The recesses in the pick-up surface accommodate the retaining elements when in the second position to ensure collision-free rolling of the pick-up surface. A control unit is associated with the drive which moves the additional retaining elements, the control unit releasing the drive to allow these retaining elements to move, as a function of the rolling movement of the pick-up surface, only in the intervals between removal of successive labels from the stack.
