ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of comminuting particles of material in a centrifugal mill or the like having a vacuum chamber, comprises rotating at least one rotor carrying at least one impact surface such that the impact surface travels in a closed path in the vacuum chamber, feeding the particles into the vacuum chamber at the impact position such that when the impact surface passes through the impact position, it strikes the particles with sufficient energy to break them into fragments, the fragments then being propelled centrifugally for further fragmentation against stationary impact surfaces outside the closed path.
