ABSTRACT In a printer, a control system sets a delay time after a movement of a movable printing member and at the instant a printing motion is to occur. A variable condition of the movable printing member is determined and a delay time is selected in conformity to the variable condition. Because a sufficient delay time is set to meet any specific situation, a minimum of irregularity occurs in the spacings of characters printed out on a sheet.
