ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A fan which can be mounted in a window opening without using any tools, mounting hardware or special brackets or used as a floor fan includes a frame and a fan unit. The frame comprises a pair of panel sections which are hingedly interconnected for pivotal movement relative to each other from a fully open position (180 degrees apart) to a folded (or parallel) position and which automatically snap- lock in place at the fully open position and at a partially closed position of about 120 degrees apart. The frame also includes a pair of adjustable side extensions, one attached to and extending out from each panel section. The fan unit includes a motor driven fan and is pivotally attached to the frame for rotational movement relative to the frame. When being used as a floor fan, the panel sections are pivoted relative to each other to a partially folded position to form a self supporting stand. When being mounted in a window opening, each side extension is locked in place relative to its associated side panel at a setting such that the distance from the outer edge of one side extension to the outer edge of the other side extension when the panel sections are at 180 degrees is just slightly greater than the distance between the side walls of the window frame. The fan is placed into the window opening with the panel sections pivoted to an angle of less than 180 degrees. Once set in the window opening, the panel sections are pivoted back to 180 degrees where they snap-lock in place with the two side extensions pressing up tightly against the side walls of the window frame and thus wedging the fan into the window opening between the side walls of the window frame. The fan is removed by releasing the locking mechanism, pivoting the side panels to form an angle of less than 180 degrees and then lifting the fan out.
