Abstract of the Disclosure In this invention an extended chess game apparatus is consturcted with two sets of playing pieces, each of which is comprised of a standard set of chess pieces and at least six additional royalty pieces, and in some embodiements a new playing piece which can be moved as a queen moves or as a knight moves, wherein both sets of playing pieces contain the same types of playing pieces and the same number of playing pieces of each type; and a game board that is comprised of at least ten rows and ten columns of ten playing sections each, wherein one set of playing sections,,on each of two opposite halves of the game board, is distinguished from the playing sections adjacent to it, and wherein each of said sets of playing sections is comprised of at least as many playing sections as there are playing pieces in one set of playing pieces and wherein each of said sets of playing sections is comprised of at least two adjacent rows of at least eight playing sections each, and where in each of said sets of playing sections lies inboard of the outermost row of playing sections and of the outermost column of playing sections on the half of the game board on which it is situated. This allows for extended chess games to be played that offer a number of differences to the standard game of chess, and are therefore an alternative to the standard game of chess, which can be learned in a very short time by someone who knows how to play chess.
