CELL GELLING AGENT ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: An electrochemical cell having an anode comprised of a particulate anode metal, particularly an alkaline cell having a zinc anode, in which the electrochemical cell's anode is gelled with a hydrolyzed polyacrylonitrile gelling agent is disclosed. By use of this gelling agent the anodic materials such as amalgamated zinc powders are kept uniformly dispersed for maximum electrochemical activity.
