Abstract of the Disclosure Hexagonal-bipyramid crystalline scandium oxide powder and a process for preparing the same are disclosed. The process comprises forming scandium oxalate from an acid aqueous solution containing scandium in the presence of chloride ions and ammonium ions, collecting the precipitate and heating the collected precipitate. Hexagonal-bipyramid crystalline scandium oxide is useful for making electron gun for cathode ray tubes.
