Abstract of the Disclosure: In antifoams based on oil-in- water emulsions, the oil phase of the emulsion contains (a) C12-C26-alcohols, distillation residues which are obtained in the preparation of alcohols by the oxo synthesis or by the Ziegler method and/or (b) fatty acid esters of a C12-C22-carboxylic acid with a monohydric, dihydric or trihydric C1-C18-alcohol and, if required, (c) a hydrocarbon having a boiling point above 200°C or a fatty acid of 12 to 22 carbon atoms, accounts for from 15 to 50% by weight of the emulsion, has a mean particle size of < 25 µm and furthermore contains finely divided, virtually water-insoluble, inert solids which have a particle diameter of <20 µm and which have not been rendered hydrophobic.
