ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to new preparations of dipyridamole or a physiologically acceptable acid addition salt thereof, for oral administration, with a relative bioavailability of over 100% (relative to dipyridamole solutions) and resulting in substantially lower blood level fluctuations, containing at least 5 equivalents of orally acceptable acidic excipient per mole of dipyridamole or an acid addition salt thereof, the dipyridamole or an acid addition salt thereof and acidic excipient preferably being present in intimate admixture. Other excipients may also be present, such as diffusion lacquers permeable to gastrointestinal fluid, swellable water-soluble polymers, water-insoluble polymers and water-repellent fats. Processes for preparing these preparations are also described.
