ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An optical focus position control device, for an optical disc apparatus that records, plays back, and erases information by directing an optical been such as a laser beam onto a recording media disc comprising mag- netic film, has a focusing permanent magnet in a closed magnetic circuit, and a focusing drive coil installed so that it crosses a magnetic gap in the magnetic circuit, the magnetic gap being located in a part of the magnetic circuit closest to the disc. In addition, the optical focus position control device has a tracking controller for deflecting the beam radially of the disc.
