ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Novel pyrazine compounds having the general formula Image (I) wherein: X represents oxygen or sulphur; R represents hydrogen, ammonium, alkyl of up to 6 carbon atoms, phenyl or benzyl; and either Y represents a substituted or unsubstituted group chosen from phenyl, naphthyl, anthryl, or heteroaromatic, in which the heteroaromatic group contains 5 or 6 ring atoms including up to three heteroatoms chosen from O, N and S, and in which the substituents are one or two moieties chosen from cyano, halo, amino, nitro, (C1-C4)alkoxy, (C1-C4)alkyl, and (C1-C4)haloalkoxy and (C1-C4)haloalkyl in which the halogens are up to four bromine, fluorine or chlorine atoms, or Y represents a bivalent group -O?CH2?nO- in which n is 1 or 2.
