ABSTRACT VERTICAL DETAIL ENHANCER FOR A VIDEO DISPLAY SYSTEM In a vertical detail enhancer for use in a progressive scan video display system, an interstitial luminance signal producer (15) produces luminance signal representative of interstitial lines in response to interlaced luminance signals (Y) from a source (5) of such signals. The interlaced and interstitial luminance signals are modified (14,40;12,62;55,60) for enhancing the vertical detail of the displayed image. According to the invention only overshoot is added to leading edges and only undershoot is added to trailing edges. The vertical- detail-enhanced interlaced and interstitial luminance signals are sequenced (30) to produce a signal representing a progressively scanned image.
