ABSTRACT Thermoplastic polyamide polymers such as nylon 6/6 are rendered fire retardant by the addition of an effective amount of a tris-(3-hydroxyalkyl) phosphine oxide of the formula Image wherein R1, R2 and R3 are any radical selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, phenyl and alkyl radicals of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and n may be 1, 2 or 3. These fire-resistant polymers are useful in the internal circuitry of appliances, business machines, terminal strips, connectors and blocks. Nylon fibers thus made flame retardant are useful because they are more resistant to dirt and static build up and are less hydrophobic, thus improving wearability.
