Description

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An optical fiber connector assembly for assembling a pair of optical fibers in an aligned position has two ferrules, each adapted to be fixed to the end of an optical fiber. Each ferrule is formed with a first aperture extending a certain distance from the front flat end of the ferrule to the rear end along the bevel axis with a predetermined angle to a ferrule axis, and a second aperture parallel to the ferrule axis extending from the rear end of the ferrule. The first aperture is shaped and dimensioned to permit a stripped end of a single optical fiber to be positioned within it, the fiber being so positioned that the fiber end and the front end are coplanar. A receptacle body guides the first and second ferrules, the ferrules being posi- tioned within the receptacle body so that their front flat ends contact each other and the axes of the stripped ends of the single optical fiber of the ferrules are on a common axis.
