Abstract of the Disclosure A method for coding an error correcting code comprising steps of separating a sequence of PCM data into interleaving blocks including (mxn) words; forming a first parity data from the PCM data in a first parity generating series; interleaving the PCM data and the first parity data in the first parity generating series by each different delay amount so as to form a second parity generating series; forming a second parity data from the PCM data and the first parity data in the second parity generating series and providing the PCM data in the first parity generating series with the second parity data. The interleaving is completed with each interleaving block; whereby at least one of the first or second parity data is initially determines in a predetermined data, for example, a control data for controlling the PCM data.
