ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The disclosure herein describes a vertical fire grate for use in a barbecue grill, the grate consisting of a parallelepiped body formed of opposite end walls, side panels and a bottom wall; a series of vertically spaced horizontal plates are disposed within these walls to receive cooking fires to provide a uniform fire surface over the entire height of the body. Two types of grate arrangement are described: one with two side panels made of open mesh, the other with one panel of open mesh and one panel of imperforate material.
