ABSTRACT The invention concerns an improved silver catalyst, a process for preparing such catalyst and the use thereof. The catalyst of the invention comprises a thermostable inert carrier characterized in that at least 1% of the carrier surface is provided with steps or a stepped structure and to which finely divided silver particles have been applied. The catalyst ex- hibits improved thermostability.
