ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A pressure filtration apparatus comprises a pair of shells movable toward and away from each other and a multi- plicity of leaf filter elements arranged parallel to each other and axially of the shells, the leaf filter elements being locatable in the shells as they are combined with each other. Cover members are mounted respectively on tops of the leaf filter elements and extend the entire length thereof. When the shells are spaced from each other, a first group of nozzles spray wash liquid onto the tops of the leaf filter elements, and a second group of nozzles spray wash liquid between the leaf filter elements. Residues such as red mud can effectively be removed from the surfaces of leaf filter elements when wash liquid is sprayed by the first and second groups of nozzles. -10-
