ABSTRACT An engine shutdown valve comprises a substantially circular gate valve movable about an axis between open and closed positions within a valve housing mounted in an engine induction manifold. A gate lever connects the gate valve with the axis and a movement mechanism acts to move the lever between the two positions. A restraining mechanism holds the gate lever and gate valve in the open position and a release mechanism is operable to release the restraining mechanism when desired. The restraining, release and movement mechanisms are all located in a latch housing which is located exterior of the valve housing and manifold.
