ABSTRACT The present invention provides a test strip and a process for the production of a test strip; in the manufacture of the test strip a longitudinally extending band of test field material is arranged on a broader longitudinally extending band of carrier material parallel to the longitudinal edges thereof, the band of the carrier material is provided with an amount of data for the storage of information, and the whole band is divided up transversely to the pro- duction direction into a plurality of longitudinally extending test strips; the band of carrier material is provided in the region of at least one of its two longitudinal edges with a row of equidistant recesses, and on to the band of the carrier material there is applied, in the production direction, a layer of mag- netisable material, recordal of the amount of data in the layer of magnetisable material taking place trans- versely to the production direction; the provision of a recess at at least one end and preferably at each end of the test strips provides a simple means for the alignment and positioning of the strip in an analytical evaluation employing the strip.
