Case 2780 SHIELDING DEVICE FOR RESTRAINING ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE There is provided a novel mechanical shielding device for restraining ultraviolet light radiated from an arc of a metal-inert-gas welding torch. The shielding device includes a support member which is secured to the welding torch. The shielding device further includes a flexible metallic shroud. The shroud surrounds the arc and contacts the parent metal being welded. The shroud is partially impervious to ultraviolet light and, when used in conjunction with the parent metal and the torch, defines a substantially enclosed area whereby generation of ozone is restricted beyond this area.
