ABSTRACT Polyfunctional cationically polymerizable styryloxy compounds of the formula (III) Image wherein R1 and R2 are H, or one of R1 and R2 is H and the other is methyl; R3 and R4 are H, lower alkyl, or alkoxy if R2 is not methyl; R5 is a divalent hydrocarbon radical; G comprises an organopolysiloxane backbone free of amino, aliphatic hydroxyl, aliphatic thiol or other groups which interfere with cationic polymerization; and n is an integer of two or more; or wherein R1 is H, and R2 is H or methyl; R3 and R4 are H, lower alkyl, or alkoxy if R2 is not methyl; R5 is a divalent hydrocarbon radical; G is a multivalent organic or inorganic radical free of amino, aliphatic hydroxyl, aliphatic thiol, or other groups which interfere with cationic polymerization; and n is an intefer of two or more, excluding 1, 4-di(4-propenyl phenoxy)-2-butene and a method of forming a cross-linked solid polymer from said compounds for forming films and/or coating substrates.
