Abstract of the Disclosure Production of HuIFN-gamma and assay of blood HuIFN-gamma productivity both using donated blood are disclosed. Human whole blood secrets a high titer of HuIFN-gamma when exposed to an IFN-gamma inducer (e.g. mitogen) in the presence of anticoagulant (e.g. heparin, ACD, and CPD). Blood HuIFN-gamma productivity is determined by titrating the secreted HuIFN-gamma with a suitable procedure (e. g. bioassay, radio- immunoassay, or enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay). The blood of cancer patient is lower in HuIFN-gamma productivity than that of healthy donor. The HuIFN-gamma per se is recovered and purified prior to its prophylactic and therapeutic uses.
