ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A simple switch device for use with an electrical home appliance such as a television set to prevent unauthorized use of the appliance, e.g. by a child includes a casing with a narrow slot therein for receiving a card, which closes a pair of contacts to close a switch, thus completing a circuit between the appliance and a source of electrical power. The contacts can be normal metal contacts and the switch a female plug for receiving the male plug on the free end of a television cord or cable. The contacts can also be integral with the switch, both elements being in- corporated in a push-button switch or a microswitch. A relay can also be provided between the contacts and the male plug for acting as a switch, which must be closed before a circuit is completed between the appliance and the male plug.
