ABSTRACT The invention concerns a process for recovering uranium and/or aluminium from a refractory silico-aluminous material. The silico-aluminous material is leached in one or more stages to give a pregnant solution which contains little or no acid that would inhibit the recovery of the uranium and/or aluminium from the leach solution. Generally the pH will be in the range of about 1,5 to 2 so that the maximum amount of free acid will be about 5 grams per liter. The desired materials are recovered from the leach solution.
