CLAMP MECHANISM FOR AN ELONGATE ELEMENT ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A clamp apparatus which can releasably grip an elongate element includes first and second jaw members supported for relative movement between gripping and release positions. The first jaw member has thereon first and second surface portions and a recess there- between, the first and second surface portions facing in a first direction toward the second jaw member and being spaced from each other in a second direction which is perpendicular to the first direction. The second jaw has thereon a projection which extends toward the first jaw, the projection being aligned with and having a width in the second direction which is less than the width in the second direction of the recess in the first jaw member.
