ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Processes are provided herein for the preparation of the compounds of Formula I Image I in which X stands for 0, S, Image or Image ; R1 and R2, which can be the same or different, stand for hydrogen, straight or branched, saturated or unsaturated, unsubstituted or substituted C1-C2- alkyl, or aryl or for ar-C1-C4-alkyl, aryl and ar being unsub- stituted or substituted phenyl, the above substitution being with one or more of the following substituents: halogen, pseudo halo- gen, trifluoromethyl, cyano, nitro, amino, carboxy, hydroxy, alkyl, or alkoxy; R3, R4, R5, and R6, which can be the same or different, stand for hydrogen, halogen, pseudohalogen, cyano, nitro, amino, carboxy, hydroxy, alkyl, or alkoxy; or R5 and R6 form an aromatic ring which is fused to the pyridyl ring, said aromatic ring being unsubstituted or substituted with one or more of the following: halogen, pseudohalogen, trifluoromethyl, cyano, nitro, amino, carboxy, hydroxy, alkyl, or alkoxy; provided that R1 and R2 cannot be hydrogen at the same time, and provided that when R5 and R6 both are chlorine and R1 is hydrogen, then R2 cannot be n-propyl; or pharmaceutically-acceptable salts thereof. The compounds of formula I are useful in human and veterinary therapy, as they exert specific 5-lipoxygenase inhibition.
