6446-434 ABSTRACT A paging receiver includes both a tactile (vibratory) annunciator and an audible annunicator as is common in the art. Unlike conventional pagers which require the mode (tactile or audible) of the annunicator to be set manually so that, for ex- ample, if the tactile mode has been set receipt of an incoming call will not be noticed if the pager is not mounted at the user's body, the pagers of the invention starts off in the tactile mode and after a predetermined time switches over automatically to the audible mode. Thus, the user is released from the responsibility of choosing and having to remember to set the required mode while always ensuring that announcement of incoming calls will be noticed.
